Pawsitive Identity K9 Services
Handler Tom Welch, K9 Charlie and K9 Kirby
Pawsitive Identity K9 Services detect bed bugs in homes or businesses using highly trained canines, Kirby & Charlie. Tom & Nina Welch have had the incredible pleasure of raising, and working with a variety of dogs for over 30 years. For just under a decade, Tom worked with K9 Kirby, for a pest control company, but the K9 program was cut due to Covid. So, in April of 2020, Pawsitive Identity K9 Services was born. Charlie recently joined the team in December of 2021. Both canines, as well as Tom, are NESDCA ceritfied.
Hi, my name is Thomas Welch and I am the owner and K9 Handler for Pawsitive ID K9 Services. Along with my wife Nina, we have had the incredible pleasure of raising and working with a variety of dogs for over 30 years. I started my career working dogs with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and handled multiple dogs throughout a 21-year career there. For just under a decade, I’ve worked with K9 Kirby, for a pest control company, and have since, branched out on my own. In 1992 I started my career handling a black lab / greyhound mix named Buddy. We were certified through the Boston Police Department for Narcotics Detection. K9 Buddy graduated top in his narcotics training class and had a lot of success during his career. In 1994 I became a member of the National Police Bloodhound Association and co- handled three bloodhounds (Jake, Bobbie and Maggie Mae) for 14 years. In 2008, I was awarded the Life Saving Award from the National Police Bloodhound Association. Our team became very successful over the years of man-trailing for missing persons and criminal apprehension. During the last 5 years of my service with the Sheriff’s Office, I handled a German Shepherd named Dago. Over an 8-week period, we trained together and were certified through Middlesex and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office for Narcotic Detection and Patrol (Apprehension & Tracking). K9 Dago was a natural at tracking, we had success assisting with narcotic inspections for the United States Postal Service and FedEx at their distribution centers as well. For just under a decade, I have been working with my K9 partner Kirby, who is a Beagle/Terrier mix. Kirby came from Iron Heart Dogs out of Pomona, Kansas and has been certified in bed bug detection through NESDCA in Ocean City, MD and J&K Canine Academy (Pepedogs) out of Florida. Kirby has had great success helping clients with their bed bug issues. Through the years Kirby has traveled many miles (MA, CT, RI, NY, PA & NJ) to find these pests.
A canine can detect odors ten thousand times more than humans can, which means they can sniff out just one bed bug, even in a crack or crevice of a home or business. This can save you aggravation and money in the long run since they can be detected early, therefore, extermination may not be so costly.
Please don't. Self treatment can harm our dogs and can also interfere with the results of the inspection.
Are you itchy? Look for bites on your body, they generally appear in a line of 3 spaced slightly apart. We call this their breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, not every person reacts to bites, so look for tiny black spots on your bedding and in the binding of your mattress as well.
Cost varies according to size of search area, please contact us for no obligation pricing.
No, this is not a service we provide.
If we find bed bugs in your home or business, we recommend contacting a pest control company for extermination. Generally, they are exterminated through heat or chemicals.
